Two separate jobs: how mail leaves your server, and what it says. Get delivery working first.
Choose how mail is sent
- SMTP
- Any mail server, including your host's. Password or OAuth2 (Google Workspace, Microsoft 365).
- Mailgun, SendGrid, SparkPost
- Delivery services with an API key, better deliverability and bounce handling.
- Microsoft Graph
- Send through a Microsoft 365 tenant.
- PHP Mail
- The server's local mail command. Fine to get started; the most likely to land in spam.
- Configure it
Settings › General › Mail. For SMTP: host, port 465 with SSL or 587 with TLS, never None; an app password where the mailbox has two-factor.
- Set the sender
An address at a domain you control and have authorized to send from.
- Prove delivery
Send a real message (an invoice or a welcome email) to an address at a different provider, and check it did not land in spam. Utilities › Logs › Email Log should say sent.
Landing in spam is a DNS problem
Publish SPF, DKIM and DMARC records for your sending domain. No setting in any product replaces them.
Never rename an email template
WBAMS finds templates by name. A renamed template is a message that silently never sends. Change the subject instead.
